Natural Cures

There are many reasons for the growing interest in natural cures, some that might be somewhat surprising. Of course, remedies made from plants, herbs, essential oils, and other natural ingredients have been used throughout history but today, alternative medicine has become extremely important to millions of people and something depended on. We wanted to provide a brief overview of natural cures historically, along with some of the reasons for increased popularity and examples of cures commonly used.

History of Natural Cures and Remedies

A statement made by Dr. Randolph Stone sums up the way that many people feel about natural cures when he said “Only God and nature heal.” During primitive times, people believed when they became ill that some type of punishment was being handed down by the “gods.” To these people, this was extremely serious so to satisfy the gods and get healing, ceremonies were performed. Obviously, results were hit and miss, which eventually led to the discovery of nature providing needed restoration to the body.

With keen observation of the world surrounding them, these people started to notice that illness occurred during changes of season, the environment, with emotions, and more. Observation also helped these primitive people to understand that somehow, animals had the ability to self-heal. All the knowledge gained made it possible for plants, herbs, oils, and even animal parts to prevent and cure illnesses of varying types.

However, knowledge and use of natural cures and remedies took a huge leap thanks to indigenous tribes. Having gained tremendous insight into how natural substances could be used alone or made into concoctions that kept people healthy, this vast knowledge was recorded and then passed down over hundreds of years. With time, this knowledge of natural cures was in the hands of individuals who had access to more modernized research, technology, and applications.
